We have been a little quiet behind the scenes here at The Tartan Blanket Co. As we mentioned some weeks ago, we have been focussed on listening, learning and unlearning a lot of what has been underlying societal issues that have more recently been brought to the surface.

We are fortunate to operate primarily online and have been encouraged by the Government to continue to operate at this time. Although we understand blankets are not an essential in the way that food and shelter is, we know that they bring a lot of comfort to many, especially at these times when people are not there to comfort loved ones when they need it most. We like to think that gifting our blankets is like sending a hug, and it sure feels like everyone could do with a hug right now!

A gift for a newborn baby is one of the hardest things to buy. Since it is one of the most special, heartfelt gifts you can give, you really want to get it right. You want it to be special so that it’s treasured forever. You want it to be useful so that you are helping to make the parents lives a bit easier and unique. So, let’s talk about Scottish Design. Scotland is famous for a lot of things- whisky, kilts, haggis, and, of course, the windy rain. And hidden amongst the clichés, there’s also a long, rich history of textile design. For 2020, our design team has been exploring the concept of reinvention through deconstruction, and using the the nostalgic visions of Scotland’s past to design for the future. Okay, so what do we mean by that? Let’s look at how we’re reinventing tartan as an example.
